The only fault would be that the separate vegetables, new potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli looked rather tired. The gammon was well cooked, juicy, and the egg perfect. The jumbo fish portions looked massive, so we ordered from “The 2 Meals For A Tenner Menu.” The fish and chips and gammon were both well proportioned and well cooked – the fish batter being light and crisp, and the fish succulent. This menu offers, for example, Soy Salmon, Vegetable Chilli and Bangers and Mash and so on, all meals with a healthy twist. Several interesting menus are offered – The Children’s Menu, “The 2 Meals For A Tenner Menu,” the Regular Menu and the Specials Board which contains delights such as Lamb Shank in Minted Gravy and Swordfish with Mango Salsa. The wine list looked impressive including house choices at a reasonable price, and there was a wide selection of draught and bottled beers and lagers. I dithered but declined – preferring my original choice, but that was not a problem because of the un-prompted offer of a free round of drinks…and my companions promising to eat slowly! ![]() The bar staff gave us a warm and most helpful welcome, and he is an asset to their team – despite there being a minor error in communication between him and the kitchen – resulting in the wrong main meal being offered. This a family pub – catering for children (a baby’s bottle was warmed up by the bar staff while we were there) with a separate children’s menu, up to the older generation, with a generous sprinkling of all other ages in between. We hadn’t booked a table but as we were relatively early (accidentally in time to take advantage of the great Early Bird Menu – 2 meals for a Tenner!) there were tables free. ![]()
